Radiation therapy uses high- energy particles or waves to destroy or damage cancer cells. It is one of the most common forms of treatment and is administered locally to a particular area, unlike chemotherapy which affects the whole body.  It is used for cancers such as head and neck, breast,  stomach, pelvic, and lung cancers.

The most common side effects of radiation include skin changes, fatigue, and some loss of appetite. Other side effects usually are related to the treatment of specific areas, such as hair loss following radiation treatment to the head. Radiation can cause low white blood counts and platelet levels; these are what your body uses to help you fight infection. However, this does not commonly  happen to many radiation patients. Radiation affects every patient differently. Depending on the patient, they may feel weak with a decrease in activity or their energy levels may stay the same.
